Your closet has a language and it is speaking for you.  Whether you realize it or not, your wardrobe has a secret language.  What is your closet saying about you?

Now when diving into this you need to realize that this is often based upon your season in life and how you are living.  This can all be based upon different factors such as geography, age, motherhood, business, retirement, marital status, adventures in hobbies you take part in daily, economics, culture, religion, social status, and how you were raised. You can tell a person’s mood, their level of self-respect and how they want to be treated.  All these factors come into play and speak to the world around you.  By the same token, how you dress will directly affect how you feel, how you behave and your level of self-confidence at any given moment.  This is the very reason why your closet is of the utmost importance and should be given attention.

When you dress with intention your entire outlook changes.  You feel better about yourself and how you are representing yourself.  This is the number one reason why you will always hear home-based career entrepreneurs say to always get up and get dressed as if you are going into the office.  Your productivity is much higher.  The same concept is applicable on a personal level.  When you get yourself fully dressed in the morning then you instantly feel an increase of confidence and your energy is elevated to keep moving in that direction of productivity and accomplishment.

Have you ever gone through days where you just can’t seem to get things done, your focus is off, you feel sluggish, you just keep putting your hair on your head and your most loved comfy outfit for the day on?  I know I’m not the only one.  When this happens, you need to change something.  The easiest and most effective action is to get dressed!  Try it for a week.  Everyday be intentional about getting dressed and put yourself together as if you had an appointment.  I can promise you when you do this your attitude, and most importantly your confidence, will improve.  You will be showing up for yourself.  Be sure you show up well!

Elevate your closet and you will elevate your life and feel better!  Be sure your closet is full of items that can be used interchangeably to create many different looks.  You also want to make sure your clothes fit properly.  Do not buy clothes that do not fit in hopes they fit “one day”.  Do not buy items that are too big unless you have a proper tailor to fit the items to you.  Confidence is  also derived from clothes fitting properly and feeling good in them.  The colors in your wardrobe are just as important.  Don’t wear colors that you know wash you out and make you feel self-conscience.  Wear the colors that compliment your skin tone and bring out your features.

This next tip seems like common sense but must be mentioned.  Make sure your clothes are clean and not wrinkled as if they were kept in a ball on the floor next to the family pet.  I’m quite sure you have more respect for yourself than that.

The way you dress speaks volumes about your self-respect and how you want others to treat you.  When you show up for yourself and fully dress with intention then others will show you the same respect.  You will be given attention and advantage in many social situations that others may not receive simply by being dressed and ready for the moment. When you exude confidence than people and opportunities are drawn to you.

Nowhere in this blog post have I mentioned brand names.  The label on your clothes does not matter.  Work with what you have.  Make sure your closet is clean, in good condition without damage and stains and cared for properly.  Ensure your clothes fit properly and speak to the type of person you want to be.  I’m sure you have heard it before – Dress for the position you want.  This applies to the position in a career as well as life.  Especially in life.  You care for yourself by how you eat, maintain hygiene and work out.  Why should your clothes not be taken care of and just as serious?  You literally put them on display every day.

Forge a relationship with your closet.  It is speaking to the world for you every time you step out.
